一         

教學目標

This course aims to develop the ability to use English as a communication tool effectively. Students will be asked to listen to lectures, join group discussions, and do presentations on assigned topics. Every course will be conducted mainly in English and occasionally in Mandarin Chinese for clarification. 

The instructor will lead students to participate in all kinds of communicative activities. Every unit trains them to capture key information in listening, express opinions in speaking, navigate main ideas in reading, and respond to different issues in writing. These activities cultivate not merely language ability but also critical thinking of students.

上課注意事項

Learning Analytics

–  The learning analytics for the asynchronous classes will be monitored regularly. Should the completion for each unit is below 80%, five points will be deducted per unit.

Written Response 

–   2 responses in total

–   Paragraph writing in response to an assigned topic

–   Electronic submission: 12-point word; Times New Roman; 150-200 words; 2.54-cm margins

–   No late submission

Group Discussion 

–   A weekly activity

–  For every week, some (pending: depending on the number of people) members should be responsible for collecting all the responses, checking the grammar, and uploading the file.

Online Unit Quiz 

–   The quiz helps students review vocabulary, phrases, grammar, and ideas/terms in a unit

–   Students are given 1 week to complete the quiz

–   Each quiz can only be taken once

Group Presentation

–   The instructor will announce the topics for students to choose from and provide guiding questions to help structure a clear presentation before the presentation. 

–   Every group member should be assigned a part to present. No one can have a free ride. The presentation is a joint effort. 

–      Upload the slides after the presentation
